Privacy policy

Short version: I use your details to reply to you and to do the work you hire me for. I never see your card number. I don’t sell your information to anyone. You can ask me to delete it at any time.

This covers danielswick.com and the work I do through it. Real estate is separate and is covered at the bottom.

What I collect

When you use the contact form

Your first name, last name, email address, phone number, and the optional description of what you need. Alongside those, the form records which page you submitted it from, the date and time, whether you ticked the marketing box and which version of that wording you were shown, and your IP address and browser user-agent string.

The last two are worth calling out because most sites collect them without saying so. Your IP address and browser string are kept with the submission so I can tell a real inquiry from an automated one and, if I ever need to, show where a consent came from.

When you pay me

Payments run through Stripe. Your card number, expiry and security code go directly to Stripe and never reach my systems. I can see what Stripe shows me about a payment: your name, email, billing address, the amount, the last four digits, and whether it succeeded. The card itself I have no access to and cannot store.

Stripe is the processor for that data and handles it under its own privacy policy and its card-industry (PCI-DSS) obligations. If you would like the detail, Stripe’s privacy policy explains what they do with it.

When you just read the site

The site uses privacy-focused analytics that count page views and referrers in aggregate. There are no advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, and no attempt to identify you individually. My web server keeps ordinary access logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.

Why I hold it, and what I do with it

  • To reply to you. If you submit the form you are asking me to get back to you, so I may contact you by phone, text or email about that inquiry, more than once if I don’t reach you. That is a reply, not marketing.
  • To do the work. If we work together I keep what I need to run the project and to invoice you.
  • To take payment. Through Stripe, as above.
  • To send you occasional updates, only if you ticked the box. See below.
  • To keep the site working and to tell real traffic from automated traffic.

Who else sees it

A short and complete list. These are service providers acting on my instructions, not parties I sell to.

  • Stripe, for payments. They receive the payment details directly from you.
  • Resend, the service that delivers the notification email when you submit the form, and email I send you.
  • Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site, so it handles your request on the way through, and provides the analytics described above.

That is the whole list. I do not sell your details, I do not share them with advertisers or marketing partners, and I do not use your inquiry to build a list I later sell or transfer. Consent you give me is for me.

The only other circumstance in which I would disclose anything is if I were legally required to.

Marketing messages, only if you tick the box

The contact form has a separate, optional checkbox for marketing. It is unticked by default and it is entirely your choice. You will get a reply to your inquiry whether you tick it or not. Agreeing to marketing is never a condition of working with me or of hearing back.

If you do tick it, you are giving express written consent for me to send you occasional updates by email and by text message. Message frequency varies and is low. Message and data rates may apply.

To stop marketing texts, reply STOP to any message. Reply HELP for help. To stop marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link or simply reply and ask. You can also email [email protected] at any time and I will remove you. Opting out of marketing does not affect a live conversation about a project.

How it is kept safe

  • The whole site is served over HTTPS, so what you send is encrypted in transit.
  • Form submissions are stored on a server I control and administer, not on a third-party form service.
  • Access is limited to me. The stored file is not readable by other services on the machine.
  • No card data is stored anywhere in my systems, because it never arrives there.
  • Backups of the underlying systems are encrypted.

No system is perfect and I would rather say that than claim otherwise. If something ever went wrong in a way that affected your information, I would tell you.

How long I keep it

Inquiries are kept for as long as they are useful for the working relationship. I would rather find our conversation from two years ago than lose it. Records of what you consented to and when are kept for as long as the consent stands, because keeping that record is both good practice and a legal requirement for messaging. Payment and invoice records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. You can ask me to delete yours at any time and I will, apart from anything I am legally required to keep.

Your choices

Email [email protected] and ask. You can ask what I hold about you, ask for a copy, ask me to correct it, ask me to delete it, or withdraw marketing consent. There is no form and no process. It is me reading the email.

Children

This site is for business inquiries and is not directed at children. I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Real estate

Real estate services are provided through Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, and anything relating to a property transaction is governed by the brokerage’s own agreements, disclosures and privacy practices rather than this page. Inquiries about buying or selling are best started on my Howard Hanna page.

Changes

If this changes materially I will update the date below. The terms that govern the work itself are on the terms of service page.
